NG Cheuk Him Kendrick, Year 4

The Information Systems Program at HKUST has always been an ideal choice for students who are passionate about how technologies are leveraged in businesses. During my learning journey at HKUST, I gained experience in big data analytics, database management, IT auditing, machine learning, and more. The program also offered a wide range of up-to-date courses like blockchain technology, business intelligence, Artificial Intelligence, etc. New technologies are fancy, but they also have to be practical to bring actual value to businesses. Apart from my studies, I have been actively promoting the importance of connecting technology and real-life businesses to other students, regardless of whether they are from tech or business backgrounds. I was a student leader in both Amazon and Google’s student clubs, promoting cloud technologies, careers in tech, and the digital transformation of businesses. With the experience I gained, I contributed to the IS department through my internship sharing sessions with fellow IS students.

MAHMOOD Qasim, Year 4

I am deeply honored to receive the IS Outstanding Service Award for 2023-24. As the head of operations for the ISACA student group, I have fostered a collaborative environment among students, while my participation in student-staff liaison meetings has bridged the gap between students and faculty, ensuring effective communication and addressing concerns. I also had the privilege of promoting HKUST's exceptional IS program during my overseas exchange in Canada. Being a final-year student, I am immensely grateful for the countless opportunities provided by the program and faculty over the past four years. I strongly believe in giving back and have made efforts through various small gestures. This award is a testament to the support and guidance I have received and serves as a constant motivation to continue making a difference in the IS community and beyond.

CHAN Long Hin Geoff, Year 2

My journey in Information Systems (IS) has been marked by leadership and a commitment to fostering a strong community. The IS program offered a comprehensive understanding of both the technical and business aspects of IS, equipping me with a well-rounded skill set. Its emphasis on real-world applications and hands-on projects provided practical experience, preparing me for industry challenges.

As President of the HKUST ISACA Student Group and the Information Systems Students' Society, I led dynamic teams to organize impactful events such as CISA Workshops and Major Selection Day. These initiatives offered invaluable opportunities for students to engage with IS professionals, gain practical insights, and showcase their skills. My dedication to these groups not only enhanced my expertise in IS but also strengthened collaboration between students and industry experts, contributing to a vibrant and supportive IS community at HKUST.
