OM PhD student, Wenjuan LI, received the "Honorable Mention" at the POMS-HK Best Student Paper Competition 2025 for her paper titled "Dynamic Persuasion Strategies for Mitigating the Spread of Fake Content." The competition was part of the 15th POMS-HK International Conference, held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from January 3 to 5, 2025.
The research, conducted under the supervision of Professor Dongwook Shin, finds that digital platforms driven by engagement-based revenue models have inherent incentives to withhold information about fake content, regardless of their signaling strategy. The research demonstrates that commonly used consumer reporting systems cannot effectively address the core issue, while subscription-based pricing or government penalties serve as more effective solutions for fake content mitigation while maintaining platform profitability.
The POMS-HK International Conference has been held for 15 years, providing a platform for worldwide scholars to discuss cutting-edge research in operations management.
